Playing Catch Up-Where Have I Been?!
10/07/2013 12:19:00 PM Posted by mommy2twincesses
Wow! It’s
been 5 months since my last post….really?! Maybe you’ve wondered where I’ve
been, but probably you didn’t realize I was even gone, but that’s okay. In limbo; that’s where I’ve been. Should I continue to blog or should I stop? It
took 5 long months to figure out the answer to that question-and here I am.
My last
post was an internal debate over the educational future of my twins. To home school,
private school (not that we have any viable options in that arena), or to
public school-that was the current hot topic. After much soul searching,
praying, and just pondering in general, we decided to give public school a
shot!
I have
to admit, I was so torn that I actually acquired a home school kindergarten
curriculum “just in case” as well as enrolled them in public school. I thought
this way I’d be good to go no matter what we ultimately decided ;) (Yes, I was
a Girl Scout, and yes, one of my many mottos is “always be prepared”.)
With the
girls in school, and loving it, I now have a few minutes here and there to
spare and writing is what I love, so I kind of think it’s only fair to myself
to go for it. So here I am, going for it!
Now how
to catch up on all that’s went on in 5 months?!
IDK, but
I’m going to try!
Confessions of a Mommy Blogger-Letter of Truth
9/15/2012 09:57:00 AM Posted by mommy2twincesses
Though I’ve been blogging now for quite some time (in the 2-3 year range, I’m doing good to remember what happened yesterday, so forgive my vagueness), my basic reasoning behind the madness has shifted, and I feel I must confess a simple truth to those of you kind enough to read my ramblings.
When I first started blogging I did so for a multitude of reasons, one of which was for monetary compensation. Since the initial gig has ran dry I’ve found myself in quite the predicament; though I no longer was getting paid to blog, I still WANTED to-thus, I began here on Blogger.com with a personal blog for nothing other than my personal drive to share way too much information.
My point in confessing is this-I don’t blog everyday (and we all know that seems to be a cardinal rule in the blogosphere), I don’t post about nonsense, and basically, if I’m sharing something on here, it’s because I found whatever it is so compelling I simply couldn’t keep it bottled inside.
*deep sigh of relief*
Thank you for letting me get that off my chest! Thank you for continuing to read though I don’t “play by rules”!
I don’t have time to waste chatting away about things that simply don’t matter, to share countless (and most of the time seemingly useless) coupons and give-aways, and I know that you don’t have time to waste clicking through to those things.
So here’s to us! The over-sharers, the party planners, the last minute supper fixers, the overzealous parents who feel the need to document our lives for fear of one day forgetting that it was the little things that brought us the most joy, and of course, the exclusive members of the “Parents of Multiples” club!
I vow to not waste your time, not only because I don’t have time of my own to waste, but because I honestly just don’t see the point! Subscribe with confidence that there will be no “junk” posts here-because I just love us that much :o)
A Mommy Blogger’s New Beginnings
6/05/2012 10:19:00 AM Posted by mommy2twincesses
Well folks, looks like I’m here to stay. Just here I mean, on BlogSpot. The Featured Blogger program on the What to Expect site is no more, so now I’m all yours! Lucky you! LOL, in all seriousness, what I’m hoping it means is that I’ll actually be able to keep up to date and write about our lives, the fun things we do, the cool places we go, and just whatever in the heck I feel like-with no guidelines! Yippee! But no pay check-boo hoo :o(
They did start a new blogger program called Word of Mom and I have been accepted into there but I can already tell that is not where my heart is anymore. So again, lucky you! Bahahaha
My old blog, Twins! A Mother’s Joy and Insanity Doubled, will still technically be there, I just won’t be doing much with it anymore since they’ve moved to the new platform. I’m sure since I’ve poured the past couple of years into that blog I’ll be linking to it from time to time, but my chains have fallen away. I’m as free as a bird, and scared as a mouse. And here I am going for the "free" look:
I need to start off with an apology for not keeping up with my personal blog the way I should to develop a loyal base of readers. My priorities weren’t exactly where they should have been and my low numbers tell the tale best. Forgive me!
I starteth anew. Bear with me as I tread new waters, try new things, and just blog on the fly! If you read something you like, please, share it with a friend (or 500) *wink wink*
So what new things do you have going on?
Playing Ketchup-My Specialty
4/30/2012 03:00:00 PM Posted by mommy2twincesses
I’m not sure how I do it, but I’m always playing “ketchup”. Actually, I mean “catch up”, but here in the south it sounds more like “ketchup” and any time I say it I envision a bottle of Heinz. Random bit of the day ;)
Anyway, I’m looking for ways to stop falling behind on the blog front. Any ideas? For you other bloggers out there, do you post daily, every other, or what?! This newbie needs help :o)
I always have the best intentions and have made myself countless “daily schedules” that I never seem to stick to for more than a couple of days at a time. Am I alone in my inability to keep up? Is this a normal part of this season of life known as mommyhood? Anybody have any good ideas to keep on track?
Well, on the “Becoming a Butterfly” front, I do have a couple of new things to share!
First, that my fitness goals are 3 pounds closer to becoming a reality.
Secondly, that I’ve given my breakfast nook and kitchen a breath of fresh air with a good old fashioned spring cleaning, rearranging, and a few new pieces of furniture. Our barstools were falling apart, there was random kid kabbauble on the walls and I needed to find a solution for the pile of mail that always seemed to accumulate on the table. I replaced the barstools, added a Bombe chest with a drawer for the mail, and strung a little wire display up for my babies’ masterpieces. Another room, well 2 technically, checked off the list.
And lastly, I was accepted to a new blogging program for WhattoExpect.com called “Word of Mom”, so I’m counting that as a step forward in the writing department. I don’t have an article up yet, but I have two in review!
On the monkey front, things are as exciting as ever. Three year olds apparently never close their mouths, are fearless (except when it comes to characters in large suits), and completely hilarious!
We’ve been busy riding our bikes all over town, perfecting trapeze moves on the monkey bar out back, and cracking up daily over silly things said.
The latest in funny monk happenings:
M comes in asking about a “strange noise” that she heard. I tell her I heard no strange noise. K walks in with an “up to something” smirk on her face, toots loudly, says, “Well I made THAT strange noise!”, and continues to traipse out of the room!
Never a dull moment, I tell ya!

Confessions of a Mommy Blogger-Piling it On
1/15/2012 05:26:00 PM Posted by mommy2twincesses
I can tell that this “confession” thing is going to be pretty easy for me to keep up! LOL, I ALWAYS have something to confess ;)
Despite the vast majority of days ending with a game of “That’s not my Name” I have made a couple of moves to pile a little more responsibility on my plate.
Before I go on, I have to confess what “That’s not my Name” is. *hangs head*
When a day has been entirely too long or flat too tiring, I find myself responding to calls of, “Mommy!” with a chorus from the “Ting Tings”, “that’s not my name!” The first couple of times I pulled this stunt they literally froze and stared at me like I had just sprouted a third eye. And then eventually shouted, “Yes it is Mommy!”
They’ve gotten much better at our little game. Almost 3 year olds are more clever than most people give them credit for. Now when I whip out, “that’s not my name”, they are quick to quip, “well, Nic Nic (in a very sarcastic tone) we want blah, blah, blah.”
Despite the craziness, I’m actually really excited about my new ventures. See, I’ve found that for me to be a truly happy mommy I have to feel like I’m part of something bigger. Something just for me, something I enjoy, and that gets me away to a private “all big girl” land for at least a little while.
Bunco is great, but is only one night a month and really doesn’t take any preparations. Christmas Cantata is PERFECT, once weekly, requires work at home, but unfortunately only lasts a couple of months.
Yesterday after briefly flipping through my “All You” magazine and ripping out the coupons I wanted I spied a small write up about a stay at home mom who “mystery shops”. That’s always sounded so intriguing to me, almost “too good to be true”. She quoted the site she signed up at as freelancebyu.com. She saw it on the Today show, signed up, and is actually getting jobs! If she can do it, so can I. I just have my fingers crossed that even Po-Dunk southern towns need mystery shoppers :/ Oh well if not, I can at least say I tried. And, the best part is that it gives me a reason to check my email! LMBO, I’m HORRIBLE about checking my email…….
And then, this afternoon I attended a meeting at church about revamping our next to nonexistent Sunday School program! There were 8 of us there and we’re going to give “rotations” a go, so that no one person bears all of the responsibility or misses all the services. This is something I’ve dreamed about for as long as I’ve been classified an “adult”. It’s weekly, it takes planning and preparation (both of which I feign for), and best of all, it’s sharing God’s word! I’m. Super. Stoked!
With things to look forward to this twin mommy can endure almost anything! Bring it on world! I feel important again…………for now :o)
Confessions of a Mommy Blogger-Clearing the Air
1/13/2012 06:53:00 PM Posted by mommy2twincesses
I’ve been having a hard time fulfilling the commitments I’ve imposed on myself as a mommy blogger.
There just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day nor discipline in my body.
That’s where this idea stems from. I’m a journaling kind of girl and finally realized that, “Hey, this is my blog! I can journal/vent/confess here if I want to”. So, that’s just what I plan to do. I’m not perfect, in fact on most any given day I would bet my left big toe that I’m borderline insane. And I’m sure that for anyone who regularly partakes in the mommy blogger madness, it will be a breath of fresh air to get some reality checks.
I mean, yes, we do crafts and I home make this and that, and we go here and there, and our lives are pretty swell, but to leave out all the “behind the scenes action” just no longer seems fair.
So here I go, clearing the air!
This stay at home mom stuff is freakin’ hard! For me, it’s more mentally so than anything. The majority of my conversations are with preschoolers therefore I’m going to assume that is the reason my brain normally struggles to function at bare minimum on a preschool level.
Just a couple of days ago I spent from the time we got up (5:45am-ish) until noon (when we finally busted camp and left the house) being “baby cat”. My almost 3 year old twin girls were my “mommy cats” and we spoke this entire time in “meows”. It started out pretty entertaining and suddenly went to seriously alarming that we were having full blown conversations, and clearly understanding each other, with just body language and meows. I really wish I were making this up :/
Then, on days like today, I’m so exhausted by the time supper is on the table that I literally go hide out in my bathroom. My excuse is always “number 2”, and while I usually do save it up until then, I constantly look for new inventive ways to milk it for every second I can. I can’t believe my husband hasn’t forced me to go to the doctor to find out why it takes so long for such a normal bodily function to occur :oP Truth is I sit there, all alone, in (almost) perfect silence, listening to the “fart sniffer” muffle out distant cries of “Mommy, where are you?! You don’t need your privacy!” I open the second drawer of a little corner shelf and grab the magazine on top and browse through as much as I can manage.
This magazine browsing is actually a pretty useful way to pass the time as I actually pull out articles that I want to file away for later use in a folder I’ve created for this purpose.
Don’t judge me. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do ;)
This actually feels nice-to just clear the air, let it all hang out, and to flat tell it like it is. I could get used to this (and hopefully will).
What Carol Burnett and I Have in Common-3FT
12/01/2011 06:46:00 PM Posted by mommy2twincesses
Three things I do on December 1st (traditionally or just for today): Hmmm......am I a wierdo? I have no “December 1st” traditions. Instead today was rather ho-hum. We only left the house to have lunch with DH at a new little cafe a few towns away. The highlight of that was that he won the girls THREE stuffed animals out of one of those quarter toy machines with ONE quarter! LMBO, our exciting life :oP Then he won two more! Yes, we left there with 5 new toys in tow *eye roll*
Three “blessings” I’m grateful I do NOT have: 1. More children. 2. A call to scary ministry like leaving the country or something. 3. I’m drawing a blank now. I had the thought to go cheat off someone else’s paper, like maybe Hanging by a Silver Lining’s (she creates these nifty questionnaires BTW), but the “good girl” in me won’t allow it :oP
Three things I spend waaay too much time doing: 1. I’m a total Pinterest addict. Is there a support group for that?! 2. Making lists. It’s seriously out of control. My lists HAVE lists. No wonder I never feel like I get anything done. 3. Eating. Actually, I don’t think I spend too much time, just way too many calories. Dang sweet tooth! Go swell somebody else up :o(
Three things that Carol Burnett and I have in common: 1. We both know what it’s like to “dripping with little girls”. 2. We both can only half sing, but clearly enjoy it enormously. 3. Both of us dreamed of having a twin sister when we were little. I actually got twins to keep for always, IDT she got that lucky ;)
Three fads I find absolutely 100% ridiculous: 1. Skinny jeans on guys. It’s really not cute. What next? Dudes in bras? Skirts? This whole “equality” thing is really getting out of hand. 2. Big humongous bug-eye glasses. NOBODY’S eyes are THAT big! You look like flies. Take them off! 3. The whole over-the-top green/hug the earth/protect myself and my children to the point of bubble wrapping our bodies..........okay, that was a bit much, but seriously, we’re all gonna go one day or another. Science changes its mind daily. In my opinion the stress of worrying over every little thing is probably more damaging than the faint trace of whatever “they” found on my store bought produce.
Friday Fill-Ins: My First Time
9/30/2011 11:34:00 AM Posted by mommy2twincesses
1. I need to figure out why in the heck my back feels so out of whack! (Probably has NOTHING to do with the fact that I have two 30+ pound children who still like to be carted around on my hips both at the same time ;)
2. K pooped in the yard yesterday but had the decency to come tell me about it so no one stepped in it, lucky we were.
3. A great deal of excitement is bubbling up in me and it’s freaking killing me not to be able to shout it from the roof tops…………no need to beg, I can’t tell YET ;)
4. I feel so old admitting that every morning I mix powered fiber in with my “rich chocolate Ovaltine” in a big tall glass.
5. It was announced yesterday to my family that I burned my children with a hot glue gun. My children have clearly hit the “tale tales” stage and my family clearly bumped their heads going from the looks of disgust I got.
6. I’m asking Santa for new steak knives. Mine won’t cut hot butter :/
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to a whole lot of nothing, tomorrow my plans include entertaining 3 two year olds during the morning and spending the afternoon learning a half time routine with my Cowboy cheerleaders (ages 8-12), and Sunday I want to not only attend church, but actually get to sit out front and hear the sermon instead of staying in the nursery and then do as little as humanly possibly the remainder of the day!
Mommy Blogger Testing New Waters
9/13/2011 06:27:00 PM Posted by mommy2twincesses
My original mommy blog is on the What to Expect website and is still there, but for now, I’m going to give posting on my own two feet a try.
If you are interested in my twin pregnancy, dealing with infant twins, and anything in between then and now, 2 ½ years young, check that out at the link above (and/or upcoming posts with quick links to specific information that seems to be hot topics). This fresh start is going to deal more with our everyday lives. All the laughs, chaos, drama, and tears. And trust me, there is plenty of all that and so much more every single day!
Thanks so much for checking out my new space! I hope you’ll stop by often, leave me comments, and share it with a friend (or fifteen) who might find it useful (or just plain entertaining).
Parenting in my world “takes a village” and I would LOVE for YOU to be part of our village :o)
Our little happy family
